PETRUS ANDREAS DE VUYST
Pictorial Art
Petrus Andreas De Vuyst was born in March 1954 in Ghent, Belgium. Following in the footsteps of his father, the painter Gaspard De Vuyst, devoted himself from an early age to drawing and painting as his forms of expression.
At 6 years old, he won the 1st prize for painting in his hometown (there is no image), which will serve as an incentive to professionalize his talent in Plastic Arts at the Saint Luke Superior Institute of Fine Arts in Ghent (1972-1976).
His academic learning process will be complemented in his father's workshop, achieving a formation with a clear vision of art in general and also a professionalization at the level of pictorial techniques, both with great focus on the art of the Flemish Primitives, known for their workmanship, meticulous and detailed, the work with glazes, its rich colors and therefore its very realistic style.
He completes his studies with a postgraduate degree in Art Works Restoration at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent (1976-1978). Later, and until the end of 1987, he continued to develop his talent in the plastic arts and in teaching at the Saint Luke Superior Institute of Fine Arts, dedicating himself to the art of ceramics and restoration of stained glass. At the same time, he collaborates with the "De Vuyst" Art Gallery in Lokeren, Belgium.
In 1988 he traveled to Ecuador to coordinate for 6 years an international training program for young technicians in the specialty of preservation, conservation and restoration of movable heritage objects in the city of Quito.
Between 1990 and 1995 he managed the De Vuyst - Endara art gallery in Quito.
Since 1995, he was in charge of the direction of the bi-national VVOB development cooperation program between Ecuador and Flanders-Belgium.
In 1998 he organized with his Belgian colleague F. Liefooghe and the Faculty of Arts of the Central University of Quito the artistic mega-event "Plaza de la Igualdad" in the historic center of Quito.
In 2011 he honed his knowledge in the area of conservation with the diploma "Expert in Preventive Conservation in Museums and Exhibitions" from the University of Alcalá de Henares, Madrid.
He then carried out, with funds from the Embassy of Belgium and in collaboration with the University of Ghent (Belgium), a training project in preventive conservation for the National Institute of Cultural Heritage of Ecuador and the Equinoctial Technological University of Quito.
